3634 Nile Street | San Diego, CA 92104 | 619-282-4222 COSTUME DESIGN I think of myself as a "Costume Generalist." I wear many "job hats" at the same time. In my current position at the University of San Diego, I am responsible for both the design and construction of the costumes for each production I work on. Thus I often wear my Designer hat, my Costume Shop Manager hat, my Cutter/Draper and Stitcher hats, my Craftsperson hat, my Lead Dresser hat, and my Faculty Instructor hat simultaneously Many of the designs below (for both the Undergraduate and Graduate programs in Theatre at USD) are a mix of pulled costumes from the Old Globe Theatre and built pieces specific to each show. Some shows don't have accompanying renderings; instead they have what I call "Research Boards." These are collections of primary and secondary research gathered and presented in a visually interesting way that relays necessary information to the Production Team, Directors, and Actors without committing to a specific look for each costume. I can discuss time, locale, age, gender, social rank, personality, and any changes to these aspects directly with historical research and the elements of design, providing a guide for my hunt through costume stock.
